ABOUT RICHARD
A life in a picture
Here I am in my ever wizening wonderment. Strolling along the English jurrasic coastline on a late summer evening with a few of my favourite people.

It says a lot about me. As do my crows feet. Carved indelibly onto my face now after many decades of looking for (and often finding) the humour and joy in simple everyday things: friends, family, dogs (not cats!), the great outdoors; and then trying to rise to the challenge of weaving a professional creative pathway through it all.

For most of my life I've worked as a Graphic Artist and Creative Director, helping to brand and market some pretty big companies, people and products.

Whilst it's (mostly) been fun, it took me a while to realise that what I'm really, really passionate about is storytelling. And so one day, I decided to start writing down the ideas that were popping into my head instead of always watching them drift out of the window.

I started with a couple of ideas I had for fictional books for adults. But around the same time I realised that my other great passion had always been drawing - and that most of these books don't have any pictures in them.
So then it became obvious that what I needed to be was a creator of children's pitcture books, which turned out to be much more fun.
And so that was it, I set my sights on being the next big thing in children's publishing and have been frantically drawing and writing books and poetry in my spare time ever since.
Like the picture above, it has been, and continues to be, a long and winding path (marriage, children, dogs, all brilliantly adding an extra wind) but this website is testament to the fact that I haven't given up and I'm still forging my way unrelentingly along the path. The door to the publishing world is surely just around that last hill...I can feel it in my bones....

P.S
Any literary agents or publishers reading this winsome account of my creative career pathway should know that I'm not too proud to accept a lift straight to the top.

As long as you're not a cat.
